# Net yield

> What you actually keep: gross APY minus gas, bridging, swap slippage, protocol fees and any withholding — over your real holding period.

On a short holding period, fixed costs dominate. Bridging and two swaps can consume an entire quarter of yield on a modest position.

Net yield is the only figure that makes a chain-hopping strategy comparable to simply holding a yield-bearing token on one chain.

## Why it matters

Gross APY rankings systematically favour strategies that are unprofitable after costs at retail size.
